Lt Tom Boyd DSO

Tom, whose family ran a deep-sea trawling business in Hull, was one of the most experienced of the Motor Launch captains. Instead of carrying troops, his job was to give help and support where necessary, which he did, under constant enemy fire, by locating and engaging German shore positions.

Towards the conclusion of the action he came upon the blazing ML 447 and, placing his own ML between the stricken ship and the guns on and around the Old Mole, he maintained his position alongside until all of ML 447's surviving crew and Commandos were taken safely on board.
